Juicy Honey Garlic BBQ Chicken Skewers

Juicy Honey Garlic BBQ Chicken Skewers

Description

These juicy Honey Garlic BBQ Chicken Skewers are sweet, smoky, sticky, and full of flavor. Tender chicken pieces are marinated in a simple honey garlic BBQ sauce, then grilled or baked until glossy, caramelized, and delicious.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes

1/2 cup BBQ sauce

1/4 cup honey

3 garlic cloves, minced

2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional

1 tablespoon olive oil, for brushing the grill or tray

Wooden or metal skewers

Chopped parsley, for garnish

Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before cooking.

In a large bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes.

Add the chicken cubes to the marinade and toss until every piece is fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours.

Thread the marinated chicken pieces onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece so they cook evenly.

To grill: Preheat the grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grates. Grill the skewers for 8 to 12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and caramelized.

To bake: Preheat the oven to 400°F. Place the skewers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, turning halfway through.

The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.

Let the skewers rest for a few minutes, then garnish with chopped parsley and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For juicier skewers, you can use boneless, skinless chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts.

Do not marinate the chicken for longer than 4 hours because the vinegar can start to soften the texture too much.

If the skewers are browning too quickly on the grill, lower the heat slightly. The honey in the sauce caramelizes fast.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. For best results, remove the chicken from the skewers before storing.
