- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the Glaze:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13×18 inch baking sheet.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter and vegetable oil over medium heat. Stir in water and sugar. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and baking soda.
- Pour the hot butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Add to the batter and mix until combined.
- Pour batter into the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the glaze. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in milk and vanilla extract. Remove from heat and gradually whisk in powdered sugar until smooth.
- Pour the warm glaze over the warm cake and spread evenly. Let cool before cutting and serving.
Notes
- You can add chopped nuts to the glaze for extra crunch.
- Make sure the cake is still warm when you pour the glaze over it.
