Ingredients
- 2.5 lbs Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup warm whole milk or heavy cream
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Place the peeled and quartered potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt to the water.
- Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to medium and simmer until the potatoes are very tender when pierced with a fork, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the empty hot pot.
- Add the melted butter and warm milk or cream to the potatoes.
- Mash the potatoes until smooth and creamy, being careful not to overmix. Season with additional salt to taste. Set aside.
